Technology, Disruption, Innovation, Economics – Everything is changing
and moving more quickly than ever before. Markets are being disrupted,
stalwarts are being displaced, entire economies are shifting. Organizations are
starting & growing, but also failing and disappearing at a speed we have
not seen before.
Futurist and provocateur Peter Edwards will lead us in an engaging
journey into thinking more strategically and proactively about the future and
change and innovation that will impact us in dramatic fashion. How do we need
to lead, and to think and act individually (mindset) and in our corporate
culture to be best positioned to embrace change and innovation and thrive with
it rather than be come roadkill because of it. Many organizations are in
reactive mode, are too bureaucratic or slow to adapt and capitalize on changes,
and may be expending too many resources on legacy models, processes and
procedures that no longer serve our organizations and our people very well.
Peter will engage our group in an interactive session and will share 5
major changes that are happening that will affect everyone, and 4 questions you
need to be asking to lead yourself, your leaders, and your organization through
these changes so that you capitalize on the opportunities they present rather
than be overcome by them. Peter promises to challenge some things we might be
doing today that we should not be doing, and challenge some things we should do
that we are not presently. Peter has said that this presentation will be more
about “what we need to hear” rather than “what we want to hear”.
Peter Edwards is semi-retired, doing selective consulting and serving on the Board of Directors for Theatre Calgary. Peter was most recently the Vice-President Human Resources and Labour Relations at Canadian Pacific from 2009 to 2017, responsible for the integrated function across North America.
Prior to joining Canadian Pacific in 2009 as Vice-President Human Resources, Peter held senior positions at Labatt Breweries / Interbrew, and Canadian National Railway. During this time, culture change and the high performance organization were part of Peter’s mandate. Peter was a leading executive in two major corporate turnarounds (CN, CP), one of which was labelled by MSNBC as “the most successful turnarounds in history”!
Peter has worked on critically praised books on managing a changing railway (How We Work and Why, and Change, Leadership, Mud, and Why) and used the gamut of OD, HR and LR to continuously reinvent the organizations. In 2008, Wiley Publishing released a book co-authored by Peter, called Switchpoints: Culture Change on the Fast Track. The book was a Canadian bestseller, reaching the top ten business books in Canada in the Globe and Mail. Peter holds an undergraduate degree and Master of Industrial Relations degree from Queen’s University.
