Creating a Gig-Economy on the Inside

  Wednesday, August 19, 2020  8:00 am - 9:30 am  WEBCAST

Edie L. Goldberg - co-author of the book “ The Inside Gig: How Sharing Talent Across Boundaries Unleashes Organizational Capacity” [Lifetree Media] – will discuss how, in an era of rapid change and disruption, companies need to apply the concept of the gig economy inside of their organization to share talent across boundaries by dynamically matching and deploying skills to the work.  This creates competitive advantage around an employee experience that both democratizes work and unleashes internal capacity.

Drawing extensively from the book, Edie will offer a new paradigm for work that informs organizations how to master business model disruptions, rather than get run over by them.  While the war for talent has always focused on acquiring the best talent, she will share that the companies that will win in the marketplace will be experts at deploying the skills they have already acquired inside of their company (augmented by contract employees and on-demand systems to fill specific needs), as well as, how to re-imagine others to fit major skill needs for the future.

By gaining visibility into the hidden skills, capabilities, and aspirations of their employees, organizations can more rapidly, and cost effectively match the right talent to solve real-time business challenges, and at the same time, tap into discretionary effort from a highly engaged workforce by allowing employees to work on those projects that best match their skills and interests.  The future is about connecting people with opportunities for micro-learning, personal growth, and the ability to fully leverage one’s entire set of capabilities, so employees lead more fulfilling careers and companies maximize their investment in their talent.

This presentation will include a case study of the new talent operating model (TOM) that enables this strategy, which demonstrates significant business results.
